Kinship Caregiver
Denise Smith lives in Cibolo, a suburb of San Antonio, Texas, and enjoys spending quality time with her family. She became passionate about this work after stepping in as a grandparent caregiver and experiencing the challenges kinship families face when navigating child welfare, education, and support systems. As a Lived Experience Advisory Board member, Denise aims to elevate the voices of kinship caregivers, influence policy, and improve access to resources for families like hers. She brings experience in nonprofit leadership, kinship care advocacy, and legislative policy work, and is proud of founding the San Antonio Autism Group and serving on multiple nonprofit boards.
