Jarrod Hummer is a Birth Parent from Indiana. Jarrod became interested in this work because he wanted to bring a parent’s voice to the table to help make positive changes in his state’s system that would lead to better outcomes for families. Jarrod wanted to make sure parents did not have to struggle like he did while being involved with Indiana DCS.
Through Jarrod’s work with FVU LEAB he has learned about the power of coming together with many different lived experience voices to help make changes and push ideas that positively impact families. Jarrod is proud of the Casey Project Briefs he has helped update on the impact of removals and the trauma of investigations. Jarrod is a member of the Indiana Birth Parent Advisory Board, the Indiana Shared Parent Advisory Board, the Birth Parent National Network, and the Birth and Foster Parent Partnership. Jarrod helped create a RAPT training, along with his wife Mandy Hummer, for Indiana DCS foster parents on Co-Care. Jarrod is passionate about helping parents navigate the system while getting them the help that they will need to become sufficient and strengthened. Jarrod wants to continue to protect parental rights while keeping children safe and preventing the need for foster care.
